On December 3, 2009, James White, a native Texan, resident of Tyler County, and public school educator at Woodville High School, submitted candidate filing papers for the 2010 Republican Primary for State House District 12.
“The time for political calculation, procrastination, and stagnation has yielded to the fierce urgency of now. The 21st century presents a new set of challenges. This demands a new generation of leadership, accountable for its actions, possessed with boldness, armed with common sense, and tempered with humility, to step forward and seize the mantle of responsibility and answer the call to service,” stated James White.
James White was reared and educated in public schools in Houston, Texas. After graduating from high school, he attended Prairie View A & M University and earned an undergraduate degree with the assistance of an Army ROTC scholarship. The citizens of the United States awarded him a commission as a U. S. Army Infantry officer.
“I believe that my experience in growing up in an urban center, being educated in public school and institutions of higher learning in Texas, my experience as an Army military officer, and my current capacity as a public school educator in Woodville, provides me a unique perspective in analyzing the issues and challenges that confront us in the future.”
Over the past few weeks, James White has sought consultation and advice concerning this endeavor. He was reminded about the toughness of this challenge. The incumbent is well-financed and entrenched, but White believes that for too long the cult of personality, personal adulation, and personal destruction has gripped our politics.
“Now is the time for a new generation of leadership to face the challenges of a new century with novel approaches. The principles and values are the same: respect for life, liberty, the laws, and rugged individualism. The mission continues: expanding opportunity. Yet, the solutions will require a different ingenuity. East Texas has God-given treasures: water, soil, timber, oil, natural gas, and most importantly, her people. With these divine gifts, we have no reason to be wringing our hands wondering how we will provide an abundant future. We need first-class schools. We must have 21st century futuristic communication technology in order to provide high quality education, to compete globally, to use our environment wisely, and enjoy the opportunities of wholesome entertainment. It is imperative that we have roads, bridges, and ports that efficiently and effectively move our products to markets, if not develop those products in our environs, while providing the jobs for a growing and diverse population.” declared White. “I know this will be a tough campaign, but we have citizens facing tough challenges every day. Our sons and daughters are engaged in a conflict in the Middle East for our freedoms. Business owners are meeting a payroll in this challenging economy. Families are making tough household decisions. Educators are preparing our next generation of leaders. Local leaders are delivering services with decreasing levels of revenue due to the current economic downturn. I meet this endeavor with the hope that it will be tough, in order to show myself worthy of your vote.”
The potential of the future outweighs the possibility of electoral failure. Theodore Roosevelt reminds us “the credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena.” I am in the arena and I am asking every citizen that loves freedom and believes that they have a commitment to future generations to leave a state that is prosperous and abundant to step in the arena with me and support this candidacy. I am schoolteacher and a coach. This campaign will not begin with a huge war chest or connections to vast special interests. If this campaign’s motives remain just, it will have all of the resources needed for success and we will make Texas that shining city on the hill.
